A Los Angeles based ceramics studio founded in 2018. Cait Reas creates ceramic objects and goods that draw from background in design and fashion. Hand built pieces reference both the functional and sculptural.
She often uses forms that are familiar, like bottles and flasks, then alters them with textured surfaces or patterned clay. Cait is deeply inspired by elements and textures found in nature: eroded stone, marble, charcoal and peeling bark. She is interested in exploring the contrast between how an object can look soft and worn but is actually hard to the touch. Many works are unglazed to highlight characteristics of the clay bodies used.
